What is Stress Illness?
It is estimated that more than 20% of people attending GP surgeries with persistent symptoms are diagnosed as ‘medically unexplained’.
There are many more chronic conditions where the symptoms persist, despite numerous interventions. In many of these cases, the cause is hidden stresses and unless this is recognised symptoms will only be at best managed, not cured.
If internal stress levels are too high, or continue for too long, real physical or psychological symptoms can be produced by the brain as an escape from the mounting pressure that has no other outlet. The brain uses normal nerve pathways in this process, so medical diagnostic tests are often normal even when symptoms are severe, but stress illness symptoms can be reversed.
Recovery from stress illness does not involve medication or physical treatments, yet regularly succeeds where other treatments have failed, no matter how severe or how long it has persisted.
